H0684|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fourth Legislature Second Regular Session - 1998IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE BILL NO. 684 BY BUSINESS COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS AND JOURNEYMEN; AMENDING SECTION 54-1016, 3 IDAHO CODE, AS AMENDED BY HOUSE BILL 638, ENACTED BY THE SECOND REGULAR 4 SESSION OF THE FIFTY-FOURTH IDAHO LEGISLATURE, TO PROVIDE THAT LOCAL 5 JURISDICTIONS SHALL NOT REQUIRE A LICENSE TO PERFORM ELECTRICAL WORK FOR 6 WHICH A LICENSE IS NOT REQUIRED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE SECTION AND TO 7 CLARIFY THAT THE SECTION SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED TO PERMIT ACCESS TO HIGH 8 VOLTAGE PANELS BY UNLICENSED PERSONS. 9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 10 SECTION 1. That Section 54-1016, Idaho Code, as amended by House Bill 11 638, enacted by the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-fourth Idaho Legisla- 12 ture, be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 13 54-1016. EXEMPTIONS. Nothing in this act shall be deemed to apply to the 14 installation or maintenance of communication circuits, wires and apparatus; 15 nor to any electrical public utility, or its employees, in the installation 16 and maintenance of electrical wiring, circuits, apparatus and equipment by or 17 for such public utility, or comprising a part of its plants, lines or system; 18 nor to the installation or maintenance of limited energy systems, which, for 19 purposes of this section are defined as fire and security alarm systems, class 20 2 and class 3 signaling circuits, landscape sprinkler controls, key card oper- 21 ators, nurse call systems, motor and electrical apparatus controls and other 22 limited energy applications covered by the national electrical code. The 23 licensing provisions of this act shall not apply to persons making electrical 24 installations on their own property or to regularly employed maintenance elec- 25 tricians working on the premises of their employer. Local jurisdictions 26 shall not require a license to perform electrical work for which a license is 27 not required under this section. Nothing in this section shall be interpreted 28 so as to permit access to high voltage panels by unlicensed persons.
