                             IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

                                 HOUSE PROCLAMATION NO. 1

                               BY WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE

 1                                    A PROCLAMATION
 2    COMMENDING MUFFY DAVIS FOR HER DETERMINATION  AND  COMMITMENT  AND  HER  MEDAL
 3        WINNING PERFORMANCE AT THE 1998 PARALYMPICS AT NAGANO, JAPAN.

 4        We,  the  members  of  the  House of Representatives of the State of Idaho
 5    assembled in the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-fourth Idaho Legislature,
 6    do hereby proclaim:

 7        WHEREAS, Muffy Davis has lived in Idaho since the age of six and is now  a
 8    resident of Idaho; and
 9        WHEREAS,  Muffy Davis trained and competed on the slopes at Sun Valley and
10    dreamed of competing in the Olympics until a  training  accident  resulted  in
11    paralysis; and
12        WHEREAS,  despite her injuries, Muffy Davis was not willing to give up her
13    dream of Olympic competition but redirected her efforts and learned to ski  on
14    a monoski adapted for her specific injuries; and
15        WHEREAS,  Muffy  Davis  pursued  her  goals skiing in the Paralympics and,
16    along with 1,200 world athletes, competed in Nagano in the  1998  Paralympics;
17    and
18        WHEREAS, Muffy Davis won a bronze medal in the slalom at Nagano and is now
19    looking  forward to further competition again as a member of the U.S. National
20    Disabled Team and plans to compete in Salt Lake City in 2002; and
21        WHEREAS, Muffy Davis is an inspirational example of determination and com-
22    mitment and demonstrates perseverance which we could all emulate; and
23        WHEREAS, Muffy Davis has accomplished her goals in  many  ways,  including
24    her graduation from Stanford with a degree with honors in human biology; and
25        WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Legislature, speaking on behalf of the
26    people  of  the  state of Idaho, recognize the positive example and role model
27    set by Muffy Davis through her exemplary accomplishments.
28        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the members of the House of  Represen-
29    tatives  as  assembled in the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-fourth Idaho
30    Legislature, that we recognize and honor Muffy Davis for her determination and
31    commitment, her medal winning performance at the 1998 Paralympics  at  Nagano,
32    Japan, and for the pride she brings to Idaho and America.
