                            HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 53

                               BY WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE

 1                               A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 2    RECOGNIZING, HONORING AND COMMENDING QUANE KENYON FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE  TO
 3        THE PROFESSION OF JOURNALISM AND FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE
 4        OF GOVERNMENT AND THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS.

 5    Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

 6        WHEREAS,  after  graduating  with  a degree in government from Idaho State
 7    University, Quane Kenyon began his career in journalism as a copy boy  in  the
 8    Salt  Lake  City Bureau of the Associated Press, and then worked for the Idaho
 9    State Journal in Pocatello, Idaho for six years, followed by five  years  with
10    the  Salt  Lake Tribune, before joining the Associated Press over thirty years
11    ago; and
12        WHEREAS, Quane Kenyon has covered the action of the Idaho Legislature  for
13    the  past  twenty-five  years,  has during this time recounted the conduct and
14    results of election campaigns and governmental actions, and  has  reported  on
15    all  of the regular, organizational and special sessions, specializing in cov-
16    erage of the House of Representatives for the past fifteen years; and
17        WHEREAS, his weekly column, "Inside the Capitol," has been  published  for
18    over  a  decade by newspapers in Idaho, providing important information to the
19    public about government and politics; and
20        WHEREAS, Quane Kenyon has exemplified excellence  in  journalism  and  the
21    highest  reporting  standards  throughout his years of professional reporting;
22    and
23        WHEREAS, a free press exercised with unbiased  reporting  of  governmental
24    activities  is  an  essential element in the success and survival of democracy
25    and representative government.
26        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second  Regular  Ses-
27    sion  of  the Fifty-fourth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and
28    the Senate concurring therein, that we  recognize,  honor  and  commend  Quane
29    Kenyon  for  his years of service and for contributing to the awareness of the
30    people of the state of Idaho about the activities of the Idaho Legislature and
31    other governmental institutions, and for establishing  throughout  his  career
32    and  by his example, the highest standards of excellence in professional jour-
33    nalism.
