Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
            RS 08653

The purpose of this bill is to establish a twenty-five (25) day
deadline for all write-in candidates to file prior to an election.
Currently the time frame for write-in candidates in non-partisan
elections is twenty-five (25) days prior to the election and this
will provide uniformity.

The current period of eleven (11) days for partisan write-in
candidates is too short of a time span to make final preparations
especially for counties using an optical scan voting system.

                             FISCAL IMPACT

No fiscal impact on the state general fund or any of its
political subdivisions.
