Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                        STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                             RS08971C1

This legislation establishes U.S. Highway 95 as "The PanAmerican
Highway" to bring back the memory of that route from Alaska to South
America when it was established for commerce in the 1920s. The
international trade corridor has mostly been completed except for
the designation of a route through the United States. Research has
revealed that most who remember that ambitious project thought it
was established as U.S. 95. Idaho should officially identify that
corridor so as to bring back the national attention U.S. 95 needs
for up-date and repair. All indications are that this first step
will be very profitable for the State of Idaho.

                            FISCAL NOTE

The intention of this bill is only to allow it to be so designated
on maps. There would be no fiscal impact. If signage were ever
desireable, forty crossings would amount to approximately $5200.
