  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS FOR EMPLOYEES OF PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS; AMEND-
  3        ING CHAPTER 1, TITLE 33, IDAHO CODE, BY THE  ADDITION  OF  A  NEW  SECTION
  4        33-130A, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE FOR CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS FOR PRIVATE OR
  5        PAROCHIAL  SCHOOL  EMPLOYEES OR CONTRACTORS UPON REQUEST; AND PROVIDING AN
  6        EFFECTIVE DATE.
                                                                        
  7    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  8        SECTION 1.  That Chapter 1, Title 33, Idaho Code,  be,  and  the  same  is
  9    hereby  amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des-
 10    ignated as Section 33-130A, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
 11        33-130A.  CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS FOR PRIVATE OR PAROCHIAL SCHOOL  EMPLOY-
 12    EES OR CONTRACTORS. If requested by the principal or governing board of a pri-
 13    vate or parochial school, the department of education, through the cooperation
 14    of the department of law enforcement, shall establish a  system  to  obtain  a
 15    criminal  history  check  on employees  of the school or persons entering into
 16    contracts with the school. The criminal history check and  fees  shall  be  as
 17    provided in section 33-130, Idaho Code.
                                                                        
 18        SECTION  2.  This  act shall be in full force and effect on and after July
 19    1, 2000.

                 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                       RS 09666 
     
     The purpose of this legislation is to allow employers to check the backgrounds of
     Private or Parochial School employees or contractors. 
     
     
     
                    FISCAL IMPACT 
     
     The fiscal impact should be nothing, since costs would be paid by the employers
