                         BY COMMERCE AND HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE
                                                                        
  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO VETERANS SERVICES; AMENDING CHAPTER 2, TITLE 65,  IDAHO  CODE,  BY
  3        THE  ADDITION  OF  A  NEW SECTION 65-208, IDAHO CODE, TO ESTABLISH SERVICE
  4        OFFICERS TO AID VETERANS OR DEPENDENTS WITHIN  THE  DIVISION  OF  VETERANS
  5        SERVICES.
                                                                        
  6    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  7        SECTION  1.  That  Chapter  2,  Title  65, Idaho Code, be, and the same is
  8    hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and  des-
  9    ignated as Section 65-208, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
 10        65-208.  SERVICE OFFICERS TO AID VETERANS OR DEPENDENTS. In furtherance of
 11    the  duties  of  the  division of veterans services, service officers shall be
 12    organized to extend outreach  services  to  any  veteran,  widow,  widower  or
 13    dependent  thereof  in applying to the federal or state veterans' agencies for
 14    all benefits and aid to which the individual is entitled by federal, state  or
 15    local  laws, rules or regulations. At a minimum, one (1) service officer shall
 16    be located within each of the seven  (7)  judicial  districts  of  the  state,
 17    including one (1) officer within each veterans institution.

This measure is intended to provide medical and other badly
needed assistance to our veterans to whom we owe so much but who
are being neglected in many cases and in many areas.




                          FISCAL IMPACT



The funding will come from the General Fund but will be
reimbursed by federal money coming into the State.
