  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO TEMPORARY REGISTRATION OF CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLES; AMENDING SECTION
  3        49-432, IDAHO CODE, TO INCREASE THE LENGTH OF TIME A TRIP PERMIT IS VALID,
  4        TO INCREASE FEES FOR TRIP PERMITS AND A FUEL PERMIT AND  TO  INCREASE  THE
  5        LENGTH  OF  TIME A TRIP PERMIT IS VALID FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES OPERATED IN A
  6        FLEET.
                                                                        
  7    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  8        SECTION 1.  That Section 49-432, Idaho Code, be, and the  same  is  hereby
  9    amended to read as follows:
                                                                        
 10        49-432.  TEMPORARY  REGISTRATION  FOR  RESIDENTS AND NONRESIDENTS -- FEES.
 11    (1) When a vehicle or combination of vehicles subject to registration is to be
 12    moved upon the public highways in the state of Idaho, the department may issue
 13    a trip permit in lieu of registration for any vehicle or combination of  vehi-
 14    cles upon the payment of a fee as set forth in the following schedule:
 15        (a)  Ninety-six One hundred twenty (96120) hour trip permit
 16             Single vehicle...............................................$2530.00
 17             Combination of vehicles ......................................$560.00
 18        (b)  Fuel permit .................................................$2530.00
 19        (2)  A  temporary  trip  permit shall be in a form, and issued under rules
 20    adopted by the board, and shall be displayed at all times while the vehicle is
 21    being operated on the highways by posting the permit upon  the  windshield  of
 22    each vehicle or in another prominent place, where it may be readily legible.
 23        (3)  The  department  may select vendors to serve as agents on state high-
 24    ways for the purpose of selling trip permits where fixed ports of entry do not
 25    adequately serve a respective highway entering the state. The vendor shall  be
 26    remunerated  at  the rate of two dollars ($2.00) per permit sold, and he shall
 27    collect the fees specified in this section, and pay the fees  to  the  depart-
 28    ment.  The  vendor  shall guarantee payment by giving a bond to the state in a
 29    sum as shall be fixed by the board, the premium on the bond to be paid by  the
 30    department.
 31        (4)  An  owner-operator  vehicle  moving  between  lessee fleets where the
 32    vehicle registration was issued in the name of the  former  lessee,  shall  be
 33    eligible  for  a  ninety-six  one  hundred twenty (96120) hour trip permit for
 34    movement from the point of entry into the state to the destination of the  new
 35    lessee's place of business.

The purpose of this legislation is to allow vehicles such as trucks or
buses to purchase a temporary registration for five (5) days rather
than four (4) days.
