|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-sixth Legislature Second Regular Session - 2002IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE BILL NO. 507 BY RESOURCES AND CONSERVATION COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO PURCHASING; AMENDING CHAPTER 23, TITLE 67, IDAHO CODE, BY THE 3 ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 67-2349A, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE A PREFERENCE 4 FOR WOOD PRODUCTS OR PLANT PRODUCTS IN PURCHASING BY THE STATE OR POLITI- 5 CAL SUBDIVISIONS IF CERTAIN CRITERIA ARE MET. 6 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 7 SECTION 1. That Chapter 23, Title 67, Idaho Code, be, and the same is 8 hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des- 9 ignated as Section 67-2349A, Idaho Code, and to read as follows: 10 67-2349A. PREFERENCE FOR WOOD OR PLANT PRODUCTS IN PURCHASES. To the 11 extent permitted by federal laws and regulations, whenever the state of Idaho, 12 or any department, division, bureau or agency thereof, or any city, county, 13 other political subdivision or other public body, shall let for bid any con- 14 tract for purchase of any materials or supplies or services which provide tan- 15 gible personal property, the entity requesting the bid shall make it clear 16 that wood products or plant products shall receive a preference over other 17 materials if the wood product or plant product is generally as strong, durable 18 or otherwise similar in performance to another material. In awarding a pro- 19 curement contract, the public entities enumerated in this section shall 20 require a preference for materials, supplies or services that contain wood 21 products or plant products if the wood product or plant product or services 22 containing wood products or plant products is generally as strong, durable or 23 otherwise similar in performance to another material. As used in this section, 24 a plant product shall be a material made from stalks, leaves or roots of 25 plants and processed into another form.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 11720 This legislation will promote the use of wood and plant fiber products, grown or manufactured.
