  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO COURSES OF INSTRUCTION IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS; AMENDING CHAPTER 16,
  3        TITLE 33, IDAHO CODE, BY THE ADDITION OF  A  NEW  SECTION  33-1617,  IDAHO
  4        CODE, TO SPECIFY REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTRUCTION IN NATURAL RESOURCES.
                                                                        
  5    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  6        SECTION  1.  That  Chapter  16,  Title 33, Idaho Code, be, and the same is
  7    hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and  des-
  8    ignated as Section 33-1617, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
  9        33-1617.  INSTRUCTION IN NATURAL RESOURCES. In the implementation of rules
 10    governing  the meaning of thoroughness in education, the state board of educa-
 11    tion shall assure that all courses directed toward  an  understanding  of  the
 12    importance  of  natural  resources  shall explore the comprehensive variety of
 13    resource issues including responsible multiple use  management,  conservation,
 14    importance  of  renewable  resources,  understanding of processes and economic
 15    importance of biotechnology, and the relationship of man to natural resources.

	             STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                        RS 11898

This legislation is an addition of a new section 33-1617 to Idaho 
Code, to specify thorough instruction in Natural Resources. This 
additional instruction is necessary. In as much as recycling and 
conservation have been addressed and supported, a variety of 
resource issues are important to Idaho. In this very diverse state, 
multiple use, Biotechnology, and renewable resources must all be 
taught.

There is no fiscal impact.
