HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 54
BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND RECOGNIZING THE BICENTENNIAL OF THE
3 UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY AND THE PROUD HISTORY AND PROSPECTS FOR A
4 BRILLIANT FUTURE OF THE ACADEMY.
5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
6 WHEREAS, the United States Military Academy, known popularly as West
7 Point, was established in 1802; and
8 WHEREAS, West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in
9 America having been first fortified on January 20, 1778; and
10 WHEREAS, the role of West Point in the military history of the United
11 States began with the graduates who have led forces in every war of this
12 nation beginning with the War of 1812 and have continued through every mili-
13 tary engagement involving American troops since; and
14 WHEREAS, West Point has also made significant contributions in many civil-
15 ian fields of endeavor including the early explorers of the American terri-
16 tory, engineers of the infrastructure of this great land, and visionaries of
17 the future in space; and
18 WHEREAS, the list of American greats who graduated from or attended the
19 United States Military Academy is too long to note here, but includes many
20 familiar and noteworthy individuals of stalwart character, presidents,
21 generals, Rhodes scholars, Olympic athletes, astronauts, inventors, artists
22 and poets; and
23 WHEREAS, March 16, 2002, will be the Bicentennial Celebration of West
24 Point; and
25 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that recognition of the history, accomplish-
26 ments and great destiny of the United States Military Academy be given on this
27 occasion.
28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses-
29 sion of the Fifty-sixth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and
30 the Senate concurring therein, that we join together with citizens throughout
31 Idaho in extending recognition of the Bicentennial of the United States Mili-
32 tary Academy, recognizing the proud history and prospects for a brilliant
33 future of the Academy.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS 12031
This Concurrent Resolution will enjoin the Fifty-sixth Idaho
Legislature, with citizens throughout Idaho, in extending
recognition of the March 16, 2002 bicentennial of the United States
Military Academy, recognizing the proud history and prospects for a
brilliant future of the academy.
