]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-eighth Legislature First Regular Session - 2005IN THE SENATE SENATE BILL NO. 1123 BY EDUCATION COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO CERTIFICATION OF TEACHERS; AMENDING SECTION 33-1201, IDAHO CODE, 3 TO ADOPT REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO CERTIFICATION IN 4 IDAHO AND TO MAKE TECHNICAL CORRECTIONS. 5 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 SECTION 1. That Section 33-1201, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby 7 amended to read as follows: 8 33-1201. CERTIFICATE REQUIRED. Every person who is employed to serve in 9 any elementary or secondary school in the capacity of teacher, supervisor, 10 administrator, education specialist, school nurse or school librarian shall be 11 required to have and to hold a certificate issued under authority of the state 12 board of education, valid for the service being rendered; except that the 13 state board of education may authorize endorsement for use in Idaho, for not 14 more than five (5) years, certificates valid in other states when the qualifi- 15 cations therefor are not lower than those required for an Idaho certificate. 16 No certificate shall be required of a student attending any teacher- 17 training institution, who shall serve as a practice teacher in a classroom 18 under the supervision of a certificated teacher, and who is jointly assigned 19 by such teacher-training institution and the governing board of a district or 20 a public institution to perform practice teaching in anon-salaried21 nonsalaried status. Those students attending a teacher-training institution of 22 another state and who serve as anon-salariednonsalaried practice teacher in 23 an Idaho school district shall be registered by that school district. 24 A student, while serving in a practicum, internship or student teaching 25 position under the supervision of a person certificated pursuant to this sec- 26 tion, shall be accorded the same liability insurance coverage by the school 27 district being served as that accorded such certificated person in the same 28 district, and shall comply with all rules and regulations of the school dis- 29 trict or public institution while serving in such a capacity. 30 Prior to issuing a certificate, regardless of the type or source of the 31 education of the applicant, a person shall have completed: 32 (1) Under the direction of a fully certified Idaho teacher, a program of 33 student teaching, internship, or practicum of a length equal to at least 34 the minimum requirements of a fully accredited Idaho teacher preparation 35 program; or 36 (2) A student teaching internship approved by an Idaho college or univer- 37 sity teacher preparation program.
