Statement of Purpose
RS16284

Appropriates additional moneys to the Supreme Court for purchasing additional years of service in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho for certain retiring magistrate judges for fiscal year 2007.

Fiscal Note

Among other things, Senate Bill 1409 established the Senior Magistrate Judges Fund to enable the Supreme Court to purchase membership service in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho for certain retiring magistrate judges. To capitalize this fund, civil filing fees were increased by six dollars ($6.00). This trailer appropriation bill provides spending authority of $510,000 from this dedicated fund for the purpose of providing an incentive for magistrate judges to continue working part-time as senior judges following retirement. In this manner, it will help promote a pool of senior judges that will be needed to handle increasing caseloads in the years ahead.
