]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-ninth Legislature First Regular Session - 2007IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 7 BY EDUCATION COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, THE 2007 3 FIESTA BOWL CHAMPION. 4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, Boise State University, located in Boise, Idaho, is an emerging 6 metropolitan research university of distinction, achieving its vision through 7 academic excellence, public engagement, a vibrant culture and exceptional 8 research; and 9 WHEREAS, Boise State University reflects the character of Idaho's capital 10 city - a center of business, government, technology, health care and the arts; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, Boise State University is the largest university in Idaho with 13 18,876 students - an all-time state fall enrollment record for the ninth time 14 in ten years; and 15 WHEREAS, the Boise State University football team has won the Western Ath- 16 letic Conference championship for five consecutive years; and 17 WHEREAS, the Boise State University Broncos completed their most recent 18 football season with a record of 13-0, being the only undefeated NCAA Division 19 I team in the country and a win in the New Year's Day Bowl Championship Series 20 Fiesta Bowl over the vaunted seven-time national champion Sooners of the Uni- 21 versity of Oklahoma in a classic David versus Goliath matchup; and 22 WHEREAS, Boise State University's football team has the highest percentage 23 of wins of any Division I football program in the nation since 1999 and the 24 University of Oklahoma has the second highest percentage of wins of any Divi- 25 sion I football program during that period; and 26 WHEREAS, the Boise State University Broncos finished ranked sixth in the 27 Coaches/BCS poll and fifth in the nation in the Associated Press poll while 28 receiving one first place vote; and 29 WHEREAS, Boise State University's head football coach, Chris Petersen, 30 capped off an incredible 2006 season on Thursday (January 11) when he was 31 named the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year. The award is part of 32 the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Football Coaching Awards which is held annually 33 to benefit the American Heart Association and honor excellence in coaching, 34 and the honor is the first individual national award ever won by a member of a 35 Boise State University football team at the NCAA Division I-A level. 36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session 37 of the Fifty-ninth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and the 38 Senate concurring therein, that we extend to Boise State University and the 39 Bronco Football Team our enthusiastic congratulations on the past undefeated 40 season, which has culminated in winning the BCS Fiesta Bowl over the Univer- 41 sity of Oklahoma in perhaps the most exciting college football game ever 42 played. We commend the Broncos on their exciting style of play, gritty deter- 43 mination, dedication to the task at hand and their competitive spirit which 44 led to not only the biggest victory in school history but also a victory that 2 1 marks the dawn of a new era in college football by proving that teams from 2 non-Bowl Championship Series conferences can compete and win against the 3 nation's traditional football powers. We congratulate Coach Chris Petersen, 4 the first coach in America since 1900 to win thirteen games against zero 5 losses in NCAA Division I in his first year of head coaching, his coaching 6 staff, players and the president of the university, Dr. Robert Kustra. 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 8 President Robert Kustra and to Coach Chris Petersen of Boise State University.
