HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9

1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS TO THE UNI-
3 VERSITY OF IDAHO ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ITS COL-
4 LEGE OF ENGINEERING.
5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
6 WHEREAS, the University of Idaho, Idaho's land grant university, was
7 established by the Territorial Legislature in 1889, the year before Idaho
8 became a state; and
9 WHEREAS, in 1907, the University of Idaho established its College of Engi-
10 neering; and
11 WHEREAS, the University of Idaho offers engineering degrees in biological
12 and agricultural engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, com-
13 puter science and computer engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical
14 engineering; and
15 WHEREAS, during the last one hundred years 13,000 men and women have
16 received engineering degrees from the University of Idaho; and
17 WHEREAS, engineering faculty and students at the University of Idaho are
18 conducting leading edge research from under the seas with the Office of Naval
19 Research to outer space with NASA; and
20 WHEREAS, engineering faculty and students at the University of Idaho are
21 recognized for the major contributions they are making in such diverse fields
22 as biofuels, microelectronics, material science, nanotechnology, transporta-
23 tion technology, computer software security, and medical science; and
24 WHEREAS, the high quality of students graduating in engineering from the
25 University of Idaho is confirmed by the consistently high pass rates on the
26 Fundamentals of Engineering examination; and
27 WHEREAS, University of Idaho engineering graduates have, throughout the
28 decades, become groundbreaking entrepreneurs, collaborative corporate leaders
29 and truly global citizens; and
30 WHEREAS, their impact can be seen in the continued economic development of
31 Idaho and the nation.
32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session
33 of the Fifty-ninth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and the
34 Senate concurring therein, that we extend to the University of Idaho our con-
35 gratulations on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of its College of
36 Engineering.
37 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
38 President Tim White and Dean Aicha Elshabini of the University of Idaho.

The intent of this resolution is to state findings of the
Legislature and extending congratulations to the University of
Idaho on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of its College
of Engineering.
