HOUSE PROCLAMATION NO. 1
BY BUSINESS COMMITTEE
1 A PROCLAMATION
2 COMMENDING HUDSON'S HAMBURGERS RESTAURANT AND THE HUDSON FAMILY FOR ONE HUN-
3 DRED YEARS OF BUSINESS IN IDAHO.
4 We, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of Idaho
5 assembled in the First Regular Session of the Fifty-ninth Idaho Legislature,
6 recognize and commend Hudson's Hamburgers Restaurant and the Hudson family
7 for the continuation of one hundred years of business in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
8 WHEREAS, Harley Hudson opened a "quick-eats" lunchstand in a tent on Coeur
9 d'Alene, Idaho's main street in 1907, inaugurating the start of the Hudson's
10 Hamburgers business; and
11 WHEREAS, five generations of Hudsons, including Harley, son Howard,
12 grandson Roger, great-grandsons Steve and Todd, and great-great-grandson Alex
13 have continued to operate the eatery for the past one hundred years; and
14 WHEREAS, Hudson's Hamburgers has been recognized in many news articles and
15 periodicals for its hamburger business and the restaurant's simplified menu
16 with quick service and orders to go; and
17 WHEREAS, the menu is dominated by the hand-patted hamburger, with the
18 choice of pickle, onion and three condiments, namely ketchup, hot mustard and
19 Hudson's secret sauce. Cheese was added as an option in the 1960s, although
20 chips and fries are still not on the menu and pie remains the only choice of
21 dessert; and
22 WHEREAS, Hudson's Hamburgers has survived two World Wars, several interna-
23 tional military combat situations, the Great Depression, economic recessions,
24 and the arrival of the "Golden Arches"; and
25 WHEREAS, the counter dining at Hudson's Hamburgers, with eighteen stools,
26 is like being with family, eating elbow-to-elbow with neighbors, family and
27 visitors to await the treat of a Hudson's hamburger.
28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the members of the House of Represen-
29 tatives assembled in the First Regular Session of the Fifty-ninth Idaho Legis-
30 lature, that we recognize and commend Hudson's Hamburgers and the Hudson fam-
31 ily for ten decades of business in the great state of Idaho.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS 16741
The purpose of this Proclamation is to recognize and honor an Idaho
business and the Hudson family for 100 years of business in Coeur
d' Alene, Idaho. Hudson's Hamburgers Restaurant was established in
1907 and the continuous operation of the business has been by five
generations of the Hudson family.
